Greater Yellow-headed Vulture, Cathartes melambrotus, breeds in Amazonia in South America and belongs to the New World vulture family Cathartidae. It is a forest bird of tropical moist lowland woodland. First described by Wetmore in 1964, it was once treated as part of the lesser yellow-headed vulture before being recognised separately. It is a fairly large vulture with a wingspan of 166–178 cm, a body length of 64–75 cm and a weight of 1.65 kilograms. Its body is black, while the bare head and neck are deep yellow to pale orange.
