Green Aracari

Pteroglossus viridis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Green Aracari, Pteroglossus viridis, is a toucan of ne Amazonia in South America, where it inhabits lowland forest. It is the smallest aracari in its range and one of the smallest toucans. The back is green, which gives the bird its name. Males have black crowns, while females have reddish brown crowns. Breeding takes place from February to June, with nests in tree cavities and clutches of two to four white eggs. Both parents help raise the young. Its food is mainly fruit, with insects also taken.
