Green-backed Trogon

Trogon viridis

The Green-backed Trogon is a striking bird found in the forests of Central and South America. It is known for its vibrant green back, red breast, and distinctive white and black striped pattern on its tail. This species is a cavity nester, often using abandoned woodpecker holes for nesting. It primarily feeds on insects and small fruits, and its call is a series of soft, low-pitched hoots. The Green-backed Trogon plays an important role in forest ecosystems as a seed disperser. However, habitat loss and deforestation pose significant threats to its populations.
