Green-eared Barbet

Gecinulus viridis

The Green-eared Barbet is a small to medium-sized bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its vibrant green plumage, distinctive red patch around the ear, and a stout, slightly curved bill. These birds are known for their melodious calls and are often found in the canopy, feeding on fruits, insects, and small reptiles. They play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitat. The Green-eared Barbet is a cavity nester, excavating holes in trees for nesting. Although not currently classified as threatened, habitat loss due to deforestation poses a potential risk to their population.
