Green-fronted Lancebill

Doryfera ludovicae (Bourcier & Mulsant, 1847)

Green-fronted Lancebill, Doryfera ludovicae, is a hummingbird of Middle America and South America, breeding from Costa Rica to Venezuela and north-west Bolivia. It lives in subtropical and tropical moist montane forest, especially where fast-flowing rivers and streams run through the woodland. Its most striking feature is the very long bill, together with a glittering green patch on the forehead. The species is also marked by a drab grey-green breast and belly, a coppery area from the nape along the neck, and a rich green crown and back with an iridescent sheen.
