Psittacara holochlorus (Sclater, PL, 1859)

Green Parakeet Psittacara holochlorus is a parrot of Middle America, breeding in north-west, east and south Mexico, southern Guatemala, Honduras and northern Nicaragua. It was first described by Sclater in 1859. In Mexico it is found in semi-open country such as deciduous woodland, gallery forest and scrub, and it also occurs in towns and cities in Texas. A notable feature is its red-speckled throat and cheeks, with yellowish-green underwing coverts and an orange-red iris. The sexes look the same, and the nominate form is joined by a darker north-western race.
