Green Pheasant, Phasianus versicolor, is a galliform bird of the Phasianidae family that breeds in central and southern Japan, from Honshu to Yakushima and Tanegashima, south-east of Kyushu. It is confined to the Japanese archipelago and is endemic there. The bird is also known as the Japanese green pheasant or Kiji. Some authorities treat it as part of the common pheasant, while others recognise it as a separate species. It is Japan’s national bird.
