Green-tailed Towhee

Pipilo chlorurus

The Green-tailed Towhee, scientifically known as Pipilo chlorurus, is a medium-sized sparrow native to western North America. This bird is characterized by its olive-green upperparts, bright rufous sides, and a distinctive greenish tail. It is often found in dense shrubby habitats such as chaparral, brushy areas, and open woodlands. The Green-tailed Towhee forages on the ground for seeds, insects, and berries, and is known for its distinctive scratching behavior. This species is known for its melodious and repetitive song, often heard during the breeding season. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to its populations.
