Green-throated Mountain-gem

Lampornis sybillae

The Green-throated Mountain-gem (Lampornis sybillae) is a striking hummingbird species found in the cloud forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. This species is known for its vibrant green throat, iridescent blue crown, and white underparts. The male has a longer tail and more vibrant colors than the female. Green-throated Mountain-gems feed on nectar from a variety of flowers and also catch insects in mid-air. They are often seen darting among the foliage or perched in a prominent location. These birds play a vital role in pollination and are an important part of the cloud forest ecosystem.
