Mandingoa nitidula (Hartlaub, 1865)

Green Twinspot, Mandingoa nitidula, is a passerine finch of the Estrildidae family that breeds across western, central, eastern and south-eastern Africa. It is associated with lowland moist forest in tropical areas, and it is also recorded from grassland and shrubland. Males can be told from females by their bright red facial feathers. Females show an olive-green face and a darker, nearly black bill. The species was described by Hartlaub in 1865, and four subspecies are recognised: chubbi, nitidula, schlegeli and virginiae.
