Green-winged Macaw

Ara chloropterus

The Green-winged Macaw (Ara chloropterus) is a strikingly beautiful parrot species native to South America. These large, vibrant birds are known for their brilliant green plumage, with splashes of red and blue on their wings. They are highly social and form strong pair bonds, often seen flying in flocks and communicating with loud, raucous calls. Green-winged Macaws primarily inhabit tropical forests and woodlands, where they forage for fruits, seeds, and nuts. Unfortunately, habitat loss and capture for the pet trade have led to population declines, and the species is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
