Grey-and-buff Woodpecker

Meiglyptes tristis

The Grey-and-buff Woodpecker, scientifically known as Meiglyptes tristis, is a small woodpecker found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive grey and buff plumage with a barred pattern on its back and wings. This species is known for its drumming sound, which it produces by pecking on trees to communicate and establish territory. The Grey-and-buff Woodpecker primarily feeds on insects and larvae found under the bark of trees. It is often observed foraging on tree trunks and branches in search of prey. Despite its small size, this woodpecker plays a significant role in maintaining the ecological balance of its habitat.
