Eremopterix leucotis
The Grey-backed Sparrow-Lark, scientifically known as Eremopterix leucotis, is a small bird found in the arid regions of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. This species is characterized by its greyish-brown upperparts, white underparts, and a distinctive black patch on the ear coverts. Grey-backed Sparrow-Larks are highly adapted to arid environments and can often be seen foraging for seeds and insects on the ground. They are known for their distinctive aerial displays during the breeding season, where males perform elaborate flight patterns to attract females. Despite their adaptability, habitat loss and degradation pose significant threats to their populations.
