Grey-breasted Prinia

Orthotomus derbianus

The Grey-breasted Prinia is a small, insectivorous bird found in the grasslands, savannas, and open woodlands of sub-Saharan Africa. It has a distinctive grey breast and brown upperparts, with a long tail and a slender, slightly down-curved bill. These birds are known for their melodious and repetitive song, often heard during the breeding season. They build dome-shaped nests from grass and spider webs, typically placed in low bushes or grass. The Grey-breasted Prinia forages for insects and small invertebrates in the dense vegetation, using its sharp bill to capture prey. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to this species.
