Grey Bunting, Emberiza variabilis, is a bird of the family Emberizidae that breeds in southern Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin and northern Japan. Outside the breeding season it is found mainly in woodland and parks from Honshu to the Ryukyu Islands in southern Japan. It was described by Temminck in 1836. Its breeding range lies in the temperate far north-east Palearctic forest zone, and its nonbreeding range extends through temperate to subtropical eastern Asian habitats.
