Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker, Yungipicus canicapillus, is a woodpecker found across the Oriental Region and the Palearctic, from eastern Asia to northern India, Sumatra and Borneo. It was described by Blyth in 1845. Its range also reaches the Himalayas, Manchuria and Southeast Asia, and one subspecies, Yungipicus canicapillus doerriesi, is mainly associated with Manchuria, eastern Siberia and Korea. It occurs in moist lowland forest, mangrove forest and moist montane forest. The bird is marked by a dark grey crown, black-and-white upperparts, a dark buff underside with strong streaking, and a red nape in males.
