Grey-cheeked Parakeet

Brotogeris pyrrhoptera (Latham, 1801)

Grey-cheeked Parakeet, Brotogeris pyrrhoptera, breeds in western Ecuador and north-west Peru, where it occupies forests, more open woodland, scrub and cultivated land. It was first described by Latham in 1801 and belongs to the Psittacidae, the African and New World parrots. The bird is mostly green, with a pale blue crown, grey cheeks and sides of the neck, a whitish eye ring and bill, and blue on the primary coverts with orange to orange-red beneath the wing. Young birds have green crowns instead of blue.
