Grey-collared Becard, Pachyramphus major, is a passerine of Middle America, with a breeding range that is widespread there. It belongs to the Tityridae, the group that includes tityras, becards and allies. Its range covers Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua, and it has also turned up in Arizona and Texas. It lives in humid to semi-arid forest in tropical and subtropical areas, especially pine-oak woodland, from sea level to 2,500 m. The species was first described in 1847. Its taxonomy is unsettled, and five subspecies are recognised in the IOC, Clements, AviList and NACC systems.
