Grey Fantail

Rhipidura perlata

The Grey Fantail (Rhipidura perlata) is a small insect-eating bird found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands. It is known for its distinctive fan-shaped tail and agile, acrobatic flight. This species is typically 16-19 centimeters in length and has a predominantly grey plumage with a white underside. It is highly territorial and often found in a variety of forested habitats, including rainforests, woodlands, and urban gardens. The Grey Fantail is an adept aerial forager, catching insects on the wing and performing elaborate aerial displays during courtship. While it is not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and urban development pose potential risks to its populations.
