Grey-fronted Dove

Leptotila rufaxilla

The Grey-fronted Dove (Leptotila rufaxilla) is a medium-sized dove found in Central and South America. It has a distinctive grey forehead and chestnut-colored underparts. The upperparts are a uniform olive-brown, and the tail is broadly tipped with white. This species is often found in humid forests, including both primary and secondary growth. It is known for its low, mournful cooing calls that can be heard throughout its range. The Grey-fronted Dove primarily feeds on seeds and fruits found on the forest floor. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation are potential threats to its populations.
