Grey-headed Bushshrike

Malaconotus blanchoti

The Grey-headed Bushshrike (Malaconotus blanchoti) is a medium-sized bird found in the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its distinctive grey head, black mask, and olive-green upperparts. The underparts are pale with a yellow wash on the belly. Grey-headed Bushshrikes are skilled hunters, preying on insects and small vertebrates from perches in the foliage. They are often heard before they are seen, with their melodious and varied calls echoing through the trees. These birds are typically solitary or found in pairs, and they build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs. The Grey-headed Bushshrike is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is believed to be stable.
