Grey-headed Nigrita, Nigrita canicapillus, is a bird of western and central Africa, where it is widespread in tropical rainforest. It belongs to the estrildid finches and was first described in 1841 by Strickland. The species is common across its range, and its recorded extent of occurrence is 3,700,000 km2. It is placed in the genus Nigrita, one of four species in that group. Six subspecies are recognised, including forms from Guinea and Sierra Leone to Togo, and from south Benin and south Nigeria through central DR Congo and Gabon.
