Grey Junglefowl

Gallus sonneratii

The Grey Junglefowl, scientifically known as Gallus sonneratii, is a species of bird belonging to the Phasianidae family. It is native to the forests and grasslands of India and Sri Lanka. This bird is characterized by its grey plumage with intricate patterns, a red comb on the head, and long, pointed neck feathers. The male has a strikingly colorful plumage, while the female is more subdued. Grey Junglefowls are omnivorous, feeding on seeds, fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. They are known for their loud calls and are often found in small groups or pairs. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their conservation status is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
