Grey Kingbird

Grey Kingbird, Tyrannus dominicensis, breeds in south-east USA and the West Indies and spends the non-breeding season from Panama to Guyana. It is a passerine in the tyrant flycatcher family, Tyrannidae. The species was described by Gmelin in 1788. Its name links it to Santo Domingo, now Hispaniola, where it was first identified. The bird is also known by several local names, including pitirre and petchary. It is one of the kingbirds placed in Tyrannus, a genus established in 1799.
