Grey-lined Hawk

Buteo nitidus (Latham, 1790)

Grey-lined Hawk, Buteo nitidus, breeds in Middle America and South America from Costa Rica to north-central Argentina. It is a raptor of open country and forest edges, and is also known from Trinidad. The bird is a smallish hawk with a short-winged build and swift, agile flight for a Buteo. Adults show pale grey plumage, fine white barring above, a black tail with three white bands, and orange legs. The nest is made of sticks and placed high in a tree, with one to three eggs, usually two.
