Grey-necked Wood-Rail

Aramides cajaneus

The Grey-necked Wood-Rail is a striking bird found in wetlands and marshy areas of Central and South America. It is known for its distinctive grey neck and chestnut-colored wings. This species is often observed foraging for food in shallow water, using its long legs and slender bill to capture small fish, insects, and other aquatic creatures. The Grey-necked Wood-Rail is a vocal bird, emitting a variety of calls including loud, repetitive notes. Although it is relatively common in its range, habitat loss and degradation pose threats to its population.
