Grey Peacock-Pheasant

Polyplectron bicalcaratum

The Grey Peacock-Pheasant is a medium-sized bird native to the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking plumage, with intricate patterns of iridescent blue, green, and bronze on its upperparts, and a distinctive long, graduated tail. Males have a characteristic metallic blue throat patch and long spurs on their legs. These birds are shy and elusive, often foraging on the forest floor for seeds, fruits, and invertebrates. They are also known for their low, booming calls during the breeding season. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting pose significant threats to their populations.
