Grey-throated Barbet

Gymnobucco bonapartei

The Grey-throated Barbet is a medium-sized bird found in the forests and woodlands of West Africa. It has a distinctive appearance with a mainly green plumage, a grey throat, and a red forehead. This species is known for its loud, repetitive call that resonates through the forest canopy. Grey-throated Barbets feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. They excavate nest holes in trees for breeding, and are often seen in pairs or small groups. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to their populations.
