Grey-winged Blackbird

Turdus boulboul

The Grey-winged Blackbird (Turdus boulboul) is a medium-sized thrush found in the Himalayan region and parts of Southeast Asia. It has a dark plumage with a distinctive grey wing patch, and the male has a striking yellow eye-ring. This species is known for its melodious and flute-like song, often heard in the forested areas it inhabits. Grey-winged Blackbirds are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the ground for insects, worms, and berries. They are often found in dense undergrowth and forest edges, and are known to be shy and elusive. While not currently considered threatened, their habitat loss due to deforestation and human encroachment poses a potential risk to their populations.
