Growling Riflebird, Ptiloris intercedens, is a bird of paradise found in the lowlands of easternmost Papua New Guinea, within Australasia. It was described by Sharpe in 1882. Also known as the eastern riflebird, it belongs to the family Paradisaeidae and the order Passeriformes. The name riflebird refers to the resemblance of its black velvety plumage to the uniform once worn by the British Army Rifle Brigade. The male is polygamous and carries out its courtship display alone. Its diet is mainly fruits and arthropods.
