Guanay Cormorant, Leucocarbo bougainvilliorum, breeds along the South American coast from Peru to central Chile and southern Argentina. It is a cormorant in the family Phalacrocoracidae, placed in the order Suliformes. The species is associated with shallow seawater and rocky shores. It is the main producer of guano. Breeding takes place throughout the year, with the strongest activity in November and December. Nests are made from guano on level ground on offshore islands or isolated headlands, and colonies can be very dense. It lays two or three eggs.
