Guatemalan Pygmy Owl, Glaucidium cobanense, is a bird of Middle America, breeding from southern Mexico through Guatemala to Honduras. It was described by Sharpe in 1875 and belongs to the owl family Strigidae. It is a montane species of forest edges and openings, including pine savannah, pine-oak forest and cloudforest, usually at elevations above 1,600 m. Adults show two colour forms, one rufous and the other grey-brown, with some birds intermediate between the two. The nape carries paired black-and-white markings that look like eyes.
