Guerin's Helmetcrest

Oxypogon guerinii

Guerin's Helmetcrest (Oxypogon guerinii) is a species of hummingbird found in the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its striking iridescent plumage and distinctive helmet-like crest on the top of its head. These small, agile birds are known for their rapid wingbeats and their ability to hover in mid-air while feeding on nectar from flowers. They play a vital role in pollination within their montane forest habitats. Guerin's Helmetcrest is threatened by habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation and climate change.
