Guianan Red Cotinga, Phoenicircus carnifex, is a passerine of the Cotingidae family in ne Amazonia, where it inhabits humid to wet lowland forest across eastern Venezuela, the Guianas and northern Brazil. It is a resident bird with a range that also reaches Brazil’s eastern Roraima, eastern Amazonas, northwestern Maranhão and the lower Tapajós River drainage. The species is marked by a forward-pointing fringe of forehead feathers that partly covers the nostrils, along with bristles at the bill base. Males and females differ in plumage, and immature males resemble adult females.
