It is known for its buoyant flight and skillful diving to catch small fish and invertebrates. The Gull-billed Tern is a colonial nester, often forming large breeding colonies in coastal habitats. During the breeding season, it can be seen performing aerial displays and engaging in courtship rituals. This species is known for its distinctive call, a sharp 'kik-kik-kik' sound. It is considered a species of Least Concern by the IUCN, with stable populations in most of its range.
