Gundlach's Hawk

Astur gundlachi (Lawrence, 1860)

Gundlach's Hawk, Astur gundlachi, is a bird of prey found only in Cuba. It is a forest raptor and one of the island’s endemic birds. The species is linked to Juan Cristobal Gundlach in both its common and scientific names. It was once placed in Accipiter. In Cuba it uses dry forests, lowland moist forests and pine forest, and it nests high in trees. Its breeding sites are usually in forest trees at 19–25 metres. The species is threatened by habitat loss and human persecution.
