Gyrfalcon

Gyrfalcon, Falco rusticolus, breeds in Arctic Europe, Asia and North America, and is found across the Palearctic and North America. It is a bird of prey in the Falconiformes and Falconidae, first described by Linnaeus in 1758. This falcon is the largest member of its family. It nests on Arctic coasts and tundra, as well as on the islands of northern North America and Siberia, and is mainly resident there. Some birds move farther after breeding or in winter, and individual wanderers can travel long distances.
