Hairy-backed Bulbul, Tricholestes criniger, is a bulbul of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo in the Oriental Region. It breeds in moist lowland forest. It is the only member of its genus. The bird was first described by Blyth in 1845. Its recognised breeding range covers the Malay Peninsula, eastern and western Sumatra, and Borneo. The species has three subspecies. It belongs to the family Pycnonotidae in the order Passeriformes.
