Hartert's Canastero

Asthenes harterti

Hartert's Canastero (Asthenes harterti) is a small, terrestrial bird found in the high-altitude grasslands and shrublands of the Andes in South America. It is characterized by its streaked brown and gray plumage, with a distinctive pale supercilium and buffy underparts. This species is known for its skulking behavior, often foraging on the ground for insects and seeds. It builds its cup-shaped nest on the ground, hidden among vegetation. Hartert's Canastero is adapted to the harsh conditions of its montane habitat, where it faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
