Hartlaub's bustard

Lissotis hartlaubii

Hartlaub's bustard (Lissotis hartlaubii) is a medium-sized bird found in the grasslands and savannas of eastern and southern Africa. This species is known for its striking plumage and elaborate courtship displays. The male has a distinctive black and white pattern on its back, while the female is more cryptically colored to blend in with its surroundings. Hartlaub's bustard feeds on a variety of insects, seeds, and small vertebrates, using its keen eyesight to locate prey. This species is primarily terrestrial, preferring to walk or run rather than fly. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressures, populations of Hartlaub's bustard are declining, and it is classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
