Pteronetta hartlaubii
Hartlaub's Duck (Pteronetta hartlaubii) is a medium-sized, predominantly dark duck species found in sub-Saharan Africa. The male has a glossy green-black head and neck, with a chestnut-brown body and distinctive white eye-ring. The female is more subtly colored, with a mottled brown plumage. These ducks are typically found in forested wetlands, rivers, and lakes, where they forage for aquatic invertebrates and seeds. They are known for their secretive nature and are often found in pairs or small groups. Hartlaub's Ducks are not currently considered to be at risk, and their populations are relatively stable.
