Heermann's gull

Larus heermanni

Heermann's gull is a medium-sized gull found along the Pacific coast of North America. Adults have a distinctive appearance with a dark gray body, black-tipped wings, and a red bill with a black tip. Juveniles have a mottled brown plumage. These gulls are often found in coastal areas, including beaches, rocky shores, and estuaries. They are opportunistic feeders, preying on fish, invertebrates, and scavenging for food. Heermann's gulls are known for their unique breeding behavior, forming large colonies on remote islands. Their conservation status is of Least Concern according to the IUCN Red List.
