Hellmayr's Pipit

Hellmayr's Pipit, Anthus hellmayri, is a passerine in the Motacillidae family that breeds in South America from south-east Peru to southern Chile. It was first described by Hartert in 1909. This pipit is tied to open country, especially moist puna grassland in the west of its range, and it also uses pampas, rocky slopes, pasture and farmland in the east. It keeps to short grass or low herb cover. The sexes look alike, and the nominate form shows pale buff upperparts with dark streaking, two wing bars and a mostly dusky tail.
