Helmeted Hornbill

Corypha fasciolata

The Helmeted Hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil) is a large bird native to the forests of Southeast Asia. Known for its striking appearance, this species is characterized by its unique casque, a hollow structure on top of its bill. The casque is used in territorial displays and is also a source of conflict, as it is highly prized in some cultures for ornamental carvings. The Helmeted Hornbill is a frugivorous bird, feeding on a variety of fruits and figs, and it also consumes small vertebrates and insects. Due to habitat loss and hunting for its casque, the species faces significant conservation challenges.
