Hepatic Tanager

Piranga hepatica

The Hepatic Tanager is a striking bird found in the western regions of North and South America. It is known for its vibrant plumage, with the male displaying a brilliant red body and the female a more subdued yellowish-green. These tanagers prefer open woodlands and forest edges, where they forage for insects and fruits. Their melodic song can often be heard echoing through the trees. The Hepatic Tanager is a medium-sized bird, measuring around 7 inches in length. While its population is currently stable, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential threats to its future survival.
