Hermit Warbler

Setophaga occidentalis

The Hermit Warbler is a small, migratory songbird found in western North America. During the breeding season, the male Hermit Warbler displays striking black and yellow plumage, while the female has more subdued gray and yellow tones. These warblers inhabit coniferous forests, particularly favoring old-growth and mixed conifer forests for nesting. They forage actively in the canopy, gleaning insects from foliage and branches. The Hermit Warbler is known for its high-pitched, musical song that echoes through the forest. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and climate change pose potential risks to their populations.
