Highland Guan, Penelopina nigra, is a bird of the mountain forests of southern Mexico through Nicaragua. It belongs to the Cracidae family and breeds across Middle America from southern Mexico to Nicaragua. It is tied to humid broad-leaved uplands, especially cloud forest and pine-oak forest, and has also been recorded in secondary growth and plantations. The species is considered to be declining, with forest loss and hunting for food identified as the main pressures on it.
