Himalayan Bluetail

Tarsiger rufilatus (Hodgson, 1845)

Muscicapidae — Chats, Old World Flycatchers

Himalayan Bluetail, Tarsiger rufilatus, is a passerine of the western Himalayas through to central China, breeding across that Oriental Region. It belongs to the Muscicapidae, the chats and Old World flycatchers. Closely allied to the red-flanked bluetail, it was once treated as part of that bird. Adult males show a deeper blue, while females and young are greyer. It also differs from its relative in migration, as the red-flanked bluetail is a long-distance migrant. The species was described by Hodgson in 1845.
