Dinopium shorii (Vigors, 1831)

Himalayan Flameback, Dinopium shorii, is a woodpecker that breeds from northern India to Myanmar in the Oriental Region. It belongs to the family Picidae and was described by Vigors in 1831. It is a three-toed bird with a black hind neck and a throat marked by a brown centre, sometimes extending onto the breast and edged with uneven black spotting. The breast is streaked with black, though it may be entirely white. Males have a yellowish-red forehead, while the female’s crest is black with white streaking.
