Himalayan Owl, Strix nivicolum, is an owl of the Himalayas and eastern Asia, breeding across the Palearctic and Oriental regions from the Himalayas to east Asia. It belongs to the family Strigidae and was described by Blyth in 1845. It is tied to forests, mountain ranges and rocky ravines, and it also uses tree cavities for breeding. The species is nocturnal and is seldom observed in much of its range. It has three recognised subspecies, with one form confined to Taiwanese mountain forests and valleys.
